Our foremost goal is to stimulate an awareness of human responsibility for sound stewardship of the planet Earth. Our special projects seek to make a difference on an expanding grass-roots level. We will look at "behind the scenes" knowledge acquired from science, indigenous peoples, and other sources to examine the "unseen" aspects of knowledge in order to foster wisdom and stewardship. Above all we are guardians, seekers, and trustees of and for Reptiles and Amphibians. D.R.A.G.O.N.S. (Domestic Reptiles and Amphibians Getting Ongoing Nonprofit Sanctuary) DRAGONS is designed to rehabilitate and recycle unwanted or abandoned reptiles and amphibians. IBF provides temporary sanctuary to injured, abandoned, and sometimes unwanted reptiles and amphibians which would otherwise die. A temporary holding facility is based in Tucson, Arizona, and incorporates a placement program which allows qualified individuals and organizations to assume custody of rehabilitated animals under terms which insure proper care, husbandry, and captive environment. |

Boa constrictors and pythons often outgrow their captive enclosures. |

Green iguanas are imported by the thousands every year. Most die before they reach one year of age. Unfortunately, relatively few iguana keepers are sufficiently informed to provide optimal care for their animals. |
|
| IBF sponsors projects addressing wildlife ecology, conservation, environmental education, and ethnobiological studies on reptiles in search of heightening our understanding of our role as stewards and trustees of the ever changing planet. One of these roles
or projects is stopping the appalling road killing of Reptiles and Amphibians
on our urban roadways. Thus was born Dynamic Individuals
Now Organizing to Stop All Urban Roadkill or D.I.N.O.S.A.U.R. We
want to make road kill extinct. Projects to conserve critical wildlife
and plant habitat in the Sonoran Desert, Madrean mountains, and Peruvian
rainforests are in design through collaboration with sister organizations,
conservation biologists, local, regional, and international governmental
agencies, and academic consultants. |
